Kinks Hair & Beauty is proud to announce that we now offer microdermabrasion treatments to our clients. So much more than your regular facial, microdermabrasion is a game-changer in the skincare world due to its ability to brighten and purify your complexion. Despite being a widely popular treatment, you’d be forgiven for not knowing what a microdermabrasion treatment actually is. Here is everything you need to know about Kinks Hair & Beauty’s latest beauty service.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin treatment that gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells from the outermost layer of skin. This is done using a special diamond-tipped machine and vacuum suction which extract debris from your pores and collect dead skin cells. This advanced technology, along with the use of active skincare products, sets it apart from standard facials.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion will reap a world of benefits on your complexion, regardless of your skin type. By gently yet thoroughly exfoliating the outermost layer of your skin, microdermabrasion brightens your complexion and leaves your skin looking clear and purified. By unclogging your pores and clearing any congestion, it helps to reduce acne, blackheads and general breakouts. This in turn combats any premature aging caused by sun exposure, dryness, scarring, and fine lines. It also boosts collagen production to restore elasticity, creating a youthful appearance.

What to expect from your first microdermabrasion treatment

There are two types of microdermabrasion treatments: crystal and non-crystal. Crystal microdermabrasion blasts small, medical-grade crystals over the skin’s surface, while non-crystal microdermabrasion uses a diamond-tipped or rough disk to gently slough the skin. Microdermabrasion uses a machine with a wand that has either crystals or the disc. This wand is carefully moved over your skin and may give a slight tugging sensation, similar to the feel of a cat’s rough tongue or sand running across your face.

Microdermabrasion can range from 20 to 50 minutes, depending on the intensity of the treatment and the client’s preferences. Once finished, your beauty therapist will apply a hydrating cream. Microdermabrasion requires no down time; however, if you have extremely sensitive skin, you may experience redness for an hour following your treatment.

After your first microdermabrasion treatment, your skin will be noticeably more radiant and even. However, as with most skin treatments, you will need a few treatments to experience its long-term benefits, such as fixing pigmentation issues, reducing fine lines, and stimulating collagen production. We recommend booking a microdermabrasion treatment roughly once a month for six months to yield its benefits.
